Local restaurants prep for big game

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A little over two days left until the Super Bowl! That means plenty of people are counting down to the three "f's": football, friends, and food.

It's something Show-Me's in Terre Haute has been planning for all week.

"Order extra food in, extra staff, extra cooks, extra waitresses. so you gear up, looking for a big crowd," said co-owner Mike Connoloy.    

Across town at Baesler's market, they're starting to see people stocking up on the essentials.

However, the main crowd will hit the store this weekend.

"Generally, people have to procrastinate, generally because men are the ones who get excited about the [big game], so they wait till the very last minute," said Sunny Workman, a Baesler's chef.

Come Sunday, Show-Me's is going to be packed; but no matter where you go, you're likely going to be paying a little more for a certain item.

"The price of wings has gone up. It's probably close to double what it was a year and a half, two years ago," said Connoloy, "mainly it's just supply and demand."

That demand is always high, with an estimated 125 million wings expected to be devoured this week nationwide.

However, the supply is down due to last summer's drought.

"The price of grains has gone up, the price of taking care of the chickens has gone up, of trafficking those chickens, of getting them from point A to point B because gas has gone up," said Workman.

Thankfully, Baesler's and Show-Me's say they have been able to keep their prices low.

With game-time deals, they don't expect customers to see too much of a change.

"The [big game] is a time to relax and hang out with friends and enjoy that and we want to be able to help them do that."
