TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Vigo County will soon see a Republican county commissioner for the first time in 18 years.

Vigo County hasn’t had a Republican county commissioner since 1994.

Brad Anderson, Vigo County Commissioner Elect says, "I think it shows that people are willing to cross the boarder as long as they feel it’s good for the community. They're willing to vote for you; it's doesn't matter if you’re a Democrat or Republican."

Republican Brad Anderson beat Democrat Paul Mason by more than 800 votes.

Anderson says with his new position, he hopes to see change.

"One of the goals I have is communication. I want people to feel like they can come in and talk to you,” said Anderson.

But Anderson says it's not about being a Republican or Democrat, it's about working together.

"I think in most cases there’s not a whole lot of difference. We're all here for the job and we're all here to work for the people, so being a Democrat or Republican in most positions is like being on the county council. Really doesn't matter, we all have our ideas of what we would like to do,” said Anderson.
