TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) -

With energy use expected to rise amid the summer heat, Duke Energy is warning customers about the potential for higher power bills during the season.

Officials with the company warn that frequent use of air conditioners and other devices can increase power use on high-temperature days.

Now, they are encouraging customers who think they may be unable to pay their bills on time to contact the company in advance and seek a solution.

“Do not get to the point of being shut off … and you can’t pay the deposit and you can’t pay your bill,” said Rick Burger from Duke Energy. “You don’t want to get in that situation. I want to ask the customers, and I plead to the customers to work with us.”

Burger said those who think they may be unable to pay their bills should contact the company at 1-800-521-2232 .
