TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - Lori Aplin may be a registered nurse by profession, but she's reaching far beyond the hospital to encourage others. It's why she's July's Make a Difference Award winner.

She says she's been called to help the elderly.

"So many of them just stay home because they can't afford things or they don't have a reason to get out and I just wanted to come up with ways to enhance their quality of life," Aplin said.

News 10 surprised her right in the middle of one of those ways; Dine with a Doc, an event that gives free medical advice.

It's just one of the many things she does.

"Dine with a Doc, Rise and Shine with a Doc, Lunch with a Lawyer, and Fraud and Scam event. You know she came up with all these brilliant ideas and we went with the flow," Josie Blake, the executive director of the Wabash Valley Senior Center said.

They're all efforts of love that aren't going unnoticed, but Lori just calls herself, a faithful servant.

"I just want to be the hands and feet for our Lord. If you can just spread that joy, it's infectious and I think someone else gets it then and then it just becomes a better world," Aplin said.
