just this year .. that's according to the "national law enforcement officers memorial mid-year report". news 10s abby kirk joins us live with what she has learned about those stats.. rondrell "73" officers is a 12 percent increase from this time last year.. officer rob pitts is one included in the total of officers who were killed in the line of duty.. the numbers didn't come as a surprise for terre haute officer ryan adamson. "there is no statistic. there is no news stories, national statistic that is going to detour us from doing our job. we are going to continue to go out, we are going to make a point to make this community safer regardless of how many officers are killed in the line of duty." adamson says it has been a tough year for the terre haute police deparment. that's as they lost one of their own .... officer, rob pitts....who served with them for "16" years. pitts died in a shooting in may. you know what rob pitts wouldn't want us to do? he wouldn't want us to sit at home and worry about it. he would want us to continue to do our job and go out and do it to the best of our ability." the report shows data through june 30-th of 20-18. in a "6" month time frame....th leading cause of law enforcement deaths was "firearm-related incidents." "i think the violence against police is increasing. it's not just what you see on the media. we feel it here...even in our police department." --graphic the report notes "8" of the fire-related incidents happened when trying to arrest someone. "6" were killed responding to domestic calls. and "3" were killed as a result of being ambushed.
