TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTHI) - A racing legend made a pit stop in Terre Haute on Wednesday night.
Bobby Unser spoke at Indiana State University for the Speaker Series.
He is an accomplished race-car driver.
Unser talked to the crowd about his wins and losses...on and off the track.
His career once brought him to Terre Haute for Sprint Car races.
He was excited to be back on Wednesday.
Unser pointed out the city's ties to racing greats.
"Man...I use to look forward to coming to Terre Haute so bad you wouldn't believe it. Don Smith, who ran out here...you wouldn't believe it! He was a hero. Kept the racing going, he kept Terre Haute real high on the pecking order," Unser said.
He retired from Indy Car driving in 1981.
After that, he worked as a sports commentator and a column writer.
