They say those in the market for a used vehicle need to make sure they closely inspect their potential vehicle after a major flooding situation.

Many have heard the phrase "turn around don't drown." Along with saving lives the practice of avoiding water over roads might also save vehicles.

"With all of the computers and electronics that are in cars today, I mean water is going to be detrimental" Steve Finzel with Finzel's Mastertech in Terre Haute says.

Car experts say vehicles in the path of floodwaters can be easily damaged. The signs might not show at first but problems will keep occurring with the car.

"Even though you may not submerge the whole car or get a computer or module underneath water if it is sitting in water for an extended period of time or water gets in a wiring harness it will travel towards those electronic pieces" Finzel says.

With floodwaters receding across the region many are worried damaged cars may end up on the market. A flooding situation anywhere in the united states not just in the Wabash Valley can put buyers at risk of purchasing a flood damaged used vehicle.

"I think there's a worry those cars may make it back into the pool of used cars so definitely a used car inspection is a must buying any used car" Finzel says.

Finzel says there are many telltale signs to know if your potential ride is damage but they might still go unnoticed.

"You can look for water lines you can look for signs of mold or things like that you need to have someone checking out your used vehicle that is looking out for your better interest" Finzel says.

Experts say the cars can look fine on the outside disguising the real damage. So make sure you always get the potential vehicle checked out by a mechanic.
