People plan to gather nationwide this weekend for the "March for Our Lives." The public is invited to rally outside the Vigo County Courthouse along U.S. 41 in Terre Haute. One North High School student says this is to continue the conversation that started with walkouts earlier this month in the wake of the Parkland, Florida school shooting.

Sarah Behnke says, "I just felt like that there needed to be action after that and that this conversation just has to keep on going. Nobody wants to have mass shootings and that's really the goal is that we want to demand for congress that we need to take action and that we don't want to have all these people die."

A local college student is helping to organize the rally. He was living in Orlando at the time of the Pulse Nightclub shooting.

Matt Townsend says, "My roommate at the time lost a friend of his that he worked with and then I watched friends on Facebook try and post on peoples' pages to see if they could hear from them just to see them as victims on the news the next day."

He says this most recent shooting in Florida was a call to action. He wants to raise awareness through the public rallies and implore elected leaders to make change happen.

"This isn't a request. We're not lobbyist. We're constituents and we're the ones you need to be supporting."

Students say they're proud of what they have done so far and do not plan on stopping.

Behnke says, "Really hopeful for the future and that maybe in our future when we become politicians we will make different kinds of actions than we've scene in the past."

The Terre Haute March for Our Lives is Saturday, March 24th beginning at 11am outside the Vigo County Courthouse. There, people will be able to register to vote and hear from a series of speakers.
