VIGO COUNTY, Ind. (WTHI) - A man who says he killed someone in self-defense is now facing a murder charge.
Tristin Spencer appeared in court Wednesday morning.
He was originally facing a charge of voluntary manslaughter. On Wednesday in court, a not guilty plea was entered.
This stems from a shooting at the International Village Apartments on Nov. 30. Police say there was a verbal argument between Robert James Archer and Spencer.
The report states Spencer told police Archer called him a derogatory name and that led to a fight. Detectives say Spencer shot Archer during the incident. Archer later died at an area hospital.
Spencer now has a trial date set for March. If found guilty he could face 45 to 65 years in prison.
